HITec - A new Research Institute for Quantum Technologies in Hannover
A worldwide unique research centre is currently being built in Hannover: the Hannover Institute of Technology (HITec) at Leibniz Universität Hannover is a cross-topic research infrastructure for quantum technologies. Basic and applied research and technology development in the fields of quantum physics and geodesy are conducted here with the participation of the areas of expertise from physics, geodesy, and engineering.
Fundamental questions in physics are studied in HITec, such as "Are the constants of nature really constant?". Novel sensors and methods are developed for the observation of global environmental processes to capture with previously unattainable quality both local and global mass changes, for example the loss of ice mass through effects of global warming.
The research building is designed for a number of employees from 100 to 120 persons and opens in June 2018.
