HITec - A new Research Institute for Quantum Technologies in Hannover
A worldwide unique research centre is currently being built in Hanover: with the Hannover Institute of Technology (HITec) Leibniz Universität Hannover is planning a cross-thematic research infrastructure for quantum technologies. Basic and applied research and technology development in the fields of quantum physics and geodesy will be conducted here with the participation of the areas of expertise from physics, geodesy, and engineering.
Fundamental questions in physics will studied in HITec, such as "Are the constants of nature really constant?". Novel sensors and methods will be developed for Earth observations to capture with previously unattainable quality both local and global mass changes, for example the loss of ice mass through effects of global warming.
The research building is designed for a number of employees from 100 to 120 persons and is to be implemented until 2018.
