Einstein-Elevator

The large-scale research device Einstein-Elevator is a freefall simulator, which enables basic physical experiments under zero-gravity conditions. So far, experiments of that sort can only be conducted in the few globally existent drop towers, parabolic flights, rocket missions, satelites or in the international space stations (ISS).

The Einstein-Elevator is no standard product. The construction consists of components of different application areas as for example in machine tools, the construction of roller coasters and elevator technology. Thus, it constitutes a prototype, for which an entirely new and globally unique drive and guidance concept has been developed, which has many advantages over known drop towers.

Apart from an improved accuracy concerning microgravity (< 10-6 g) and a load of 1000 kg, it is the low vacuum volume that has to be pumped out, which has a positive impact. A repetition rate of up to 100 tests per day constitutes a unique characteristic of the Einstein-Elevator. Research is expected to start in 2018.
